About Sustainability
At PES we take sustainability very seriously and it forms the frontispiece of all job descriptions to be diligent with and caring of our environment.
Some of our sustainability initiatives include:
- Certification to ISO14001, achieved Nov 2020 to enhance our Environmental Management System.
- Recycling all cardboard and jazz PE by investment in baling
- Power consumption 10% reduction target
- Monitoring screens in place measuring power consumption to aid target achievement.
- Studying machine settings for reduction in power opportunities
- Investigating the feasibility of replacing water chillers with alternative cooling systems
- Carbon reduction by 10% target
- Machine monitoring to provide accurate carbon usage to help achieve business target reduction as a percentage of sales / parts manufactured
- Alternative power sources being investigated such as turbines & solar
- Recycling waste plastic

Design for end-of-life – encouraging customers/designers to think about how a product can be easily disassembled and sorted for recycling at the end of its life – it’s not waste, it’s resource.
Energy efficiency: Investment in newer, energy-efficient machinery and processes – simple machine adjustments save significant amounts of energy! All machines connected to power monitoring software. All our energy comes from renewable sources.
Solar panels: 55kw array installed on our new building
Infrared heating: Replacing inefficient gas with focussed heating
Materials: We are working with many suppliers to develop recycled materials, including recovered lab waste, recovered fishing gear, post-industrial waste and mouldable seaweed that is 100% compostable in the same way fruit & veg are. We have in-house polymer recycling capabilities too.
Waste Reduction: On-site recycling of plastic waste, all cardboard and jazz PE baled on site for local recycling
